Embedded testing with a system: reducing complexity, increasing quality

Efficient testing in embedded projects is crucial to ensure quality and reliability. However, not every test objective requires the same test level: What should be tested at which level—and how do I find the optimal method for each testing challenge?

In this talk, we explain how to select and combine test methods and simulations appropriately in order to efficiently cover key test objectives such as functionality, safety, robustness, variability, and different test paths (happy and unhappy paths). Reducing complexity and prioritizing test development are essential to achieving an optimal cost–benefit ratio.

Using examples from component-level testing, HW/SW integration testing, and system-level testing, we present various test methods and simulations, along with their advantages, disadvantages, and required effort.

Finally, in a live demo, we show how different test methods and simulations can be successfully applied and automated using continuous integration.
