Charge controller product line development with the eTrice modeling tool
Eclipseina GmbH – the expert for charging communication solutions
“eTrice at Eclipseina is the backbone of our charge controller product line!”
Annette Kempf, CEO and Product Manager Charging Solutions, Eclipseina
Our Problem
Our charge controller EC-CHARGE-EVSE (Electrical Vehicle Supply Equipment) as the central intelligence in the charging station requires a product line approach due to an infinite number of possible customer variants.
Within the charging communication various states exist, especially for the different communication standards to the electric vehicle (EV). This includes state machines for the EV and the charging station EVSE. All components within the charging station such as meters, isolation monitoring, sensors, display have specific requirements on communication and internal states. Last but not least the EVSE needs to communicate with the backend yet via another standard, which is available in different versions already.
The Solution
Designing a product line for charge controllers from scratch by modelling the state machines and the component architecture with the open source modeling tool eTrice.
Our advantages using eTrice and architecture consulting from PROTOS:
- Formal model of the components and behaviour which can be maintained
- Architecture and software are always aligned due to code generation
- Discipline of the developers as they have to model first
- Saving time and money via code generation
- Excellent expert support for designing a product line from scratch
